Dank U, merci, danke' (thank you): 2 million euro coins in circulation to thank the care sector (Het Nieuwsblad 11 May 2022)
‘Dank u, merci, danke’. This is stated on the latest 2 euro coins that were launched on Wednesday 11/05/2022 at UZ Gent to pay tribute to the care providers. The coin will widely circulate.
It was Minister of Finance Vincent van Peteghem who came to launch the first "2 euros for healthcare" in UZ Gent Hospital on Wednesday. With the new 2 euro piece, they want to pay tribute to the many healthcare providers who went to the extreme during the Corona pandemic. The new coins show a healthcare worker with a mouth mask next to a collage that includes a wheelchair, an injection needle and a stethoscope. Flanked by the inscription 'Danke, Merci, Dank U'. On the reverse is the value of the piece, 2 euros, as it is on the other coins.

There is a real chance that you will soon be carrying one yourself in your wallet or pocket: the new 2 euro pieces will be put into circulation en masse. “We will very exceptionally put 2 million coins into circulation,” says Van Peteghem. From the end of the summer, the coins will actually come into circulation, depending on the demand for 2 euro pieces, all two million copies will then come into circulation. “The physical and mental commitment that our healthcare sector has shown in particularly difficult circumstances is exceptional. They were in the front line for years to protect and support our society. With this memorial coin we want to thank our heroes of care and keep their efforts in memory. ”
